The scholarship is helping an aspiring teacher complete her education and prepare to make a difference in classrooms and communities across Texas.

AUSTIN, TX, UNITED STATES, September 16, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- The Alan Stalcup Scholarship has awarded its latest scholarship offering financial support to Layla Sierra, a senior at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) who is preparing for a career as an educator. Sierra is pursuing a B.S. in Education with ESL certification (EC–6) and is on track to graduate in Fall 2026.

For Sierra, teaching represents an opportunity to make a lasting difference in the lives of young students. As she completes the final stages of her undergraduate education, the scholarship provides financial assistance that allows her to devote greater attention to developing the classroom skills, knowledge, and leadership abilities she will need as an educator.

Sierra’s path toward the classroom speaks to the broader purpose behind the Alan Stalcup Scholarship: reducing financial barriers for students who are working toward careers capable of strengthening the communities around them. The program recognizes recipients for academic commitment, character, and a desire to use their education to create positive change.

“Teachers have an extraordinary opportunity to influence not just one student, but generations of students and families,” said Alan Stalcup, founder of GVA Real Estate Investments and sponsor of the scholarship. “Supporting Ms. Sierra as she prepares for this responsibility is exactly the type of long-term investment in people and communities that this scholarship was created to make.”

Sierra’s pursuit of ESL certification further prepares her to work with young learners from a variety of linguistic and cultural backgrounds. Her EC–6 certification path will equip her to teach students during some of the most formative years of their education.

The Alan Stalcup Scholarship provides financial assistance to students pursuing higher education who demonstrate academic dedication and a commitment to positively influencing their communities. As the program continues to recognize students across different disciplines and stages of education, recipients such as Sierra demonstrate how scholarship support can extend beyond an individual degree.

For Sierra, completing her education is the beginning of that impact. After graduation, she will have the opportunity to bring what she has learned at UTRGV into Texas classrooms, where the investment made in one aspiring educator can ultimately reach hundreds of students throughout her career.
